James P. Smith

Jim brings Devonshire clients over 20 years of hands-on marketing and management experience. He has been extensively involved in strategy, brand management, direct marketing, public relations, e-commerce software development, and online sales.

In 1999, he raised the capital for an insurance distribution software company, Acentas, which he served as President and Chief Executive Officer. Acentas was a vertical service provider (VSP) offering private label, turnkey, online insurance sales capabilities to insurance carriers, other financial institutions, and affinity groups. The Acentas platform provided all the resources required to sell insurance products online through any channel.

Jim's accomplishments as a financial services executive include the successful launches of many new products, the development of institutional, retail, and retirement (both B2B and individual employee enrollment) marketing efforts from scratch for a major investment manager. He also developed and ran e-business departments for an insurance company and investment advisor. His e-business sites (retail and institutional) and online marketing campaigns have been recognized as the best in the industry.

Jim grew up in Southern New England and received a BA in economics and psychology from Bates College.
